ENTRY #5. SELFie.

The podcast I heard from Ira Glass, the person that was questioning the three teenage girls, had more sense to me than I ever expected to know about pictures we all post online. He mentioned something after the girls said "we have expectations when we post our pictures" Ira says "at night they mostly get the likes, not in the afternoon or morning" that's where I reacted because I don't think that's true at all, I mean it all depends on what type of followers you have. What was more relevant to me on this podcast was" being a new follower", when it comes to following someone or someone following me online, I expect some kind of likes on my picture because why would I just want you to follow me? just to stare at my pictures and keep scrolling? nope. Being a new follower and making comments shows that "hey I wanna be your friend" or " you like my stuff, ill like yours". Its like a chain reaction when they start doing the same thing back. In todays society, we all want to be liked. at the end of the day we all want a good compliment online or in person, don't mater but that's how we want to represent ourselves online. Parents may not understand and think its funny but its pretty serious when it comes to likes, it changes moods, either make your whole day happy or it could lead to disappointment, you never know. One of the things the girls mentioned was how sometimes comments lead to having mind games and what I mean by that is for example, I post something online and some girl is like" you're really pretty I hate you". Its like what? thank you? you don't even know if its a compliment or not so its messing with you. Another thing too, its the way teenagers EXPECT for likes, they think of their bestfriend, their family, people they like, to like their pictures within a few minutes of posting it and if they don't like their picture, they're either going to confront them with a "why?' or just feel all bad about it and take the picture off because they didn't get the likes they expected. that's what goes on the mind every time a picture is posted on Instagram, Facebook etc.
